PLAYSETS, COMBOS AND ADVERTS
GIANT MEDIEVAL CASTLE
This set is very, very rare. I don't know how many were made but it is amazing that any survived for nearly forty years.
As Tom Heaton says in his book don't hang around if you see one as they hardly ever turn up. I have only ever seen two for sale.
The one I have is pretty much mint but due to their rarity, if one comes up for sale even with a broken piece or two, buy it.
The castle comes in a plain brown outer box not unlike the Circle X Ranch and Fort Apache play sets for Johnny West and Fort
Apache Fighters. It is made from printed cardboard and once assembled takes up around four feet square!
The scale is a bit odd but if you want a complete Knight and Viking collection you must have one of these.

US COMBOS AND MAILERS
As with the rest of the Johnny West range, Marx produced both combos and mailers for the knights and Vikings. (Gordon
and Bravo, Stuart and Valor, Erik and his 'nodding' palomino horse and finally Odin and his 'nodding' bay horse). The combos
came in the two colour type 'litho' boxes and have a unique instruction sheet printed on both sides showing both knight and
horse armour assembly.
The Combos were available from the large department store chains. (See the J.C Penney advert). The Stuart Combo I have still
has the original Sears packing slip on the back.
The mailers are pretty unexciting things, made of plain brown cardboard with only the name of the figure stamped on the side.

UK KNIGHT AND HORSE COMBOS
The UK Knight and Horse combos were produced for all three knights, Sir Cedric and Valiant, Sir Percival and Victor
and Sir Roland and Valour. There is usually a crude stamp on the back of the box indicating the colour of the knight and
horse armour inside.
The box is interesting as when opened up turns into a mini castle with a drawbridge and courtyard.
They were more than likely issued quite early on in the production run as the boxes have the first issue Marx GB logo and
the Knights do not have shoulder rivets. (The Percival I have is the very early US made figure.). These sets are quite rare
and command high prices.
